History
Lovrecica (San Lorenzo) set between the cape of Lovrecica (or Punta Saltarella, in Italian, the name came from an ancient fishing method which utilised a particular kind of net called “saltarelli”), and the cape of Malin, the site of an ancient windmill, is the village of Lovrecica. Settled in the Roman times, in 1028 it was allotted to the Aquillean Patriarchs by Lovrecica emperor Conrad II, and was returned back to the emperor in 1037 to be assigned to the poor diocese of Novigrad. The bishops of Novigrad had full jurisdiction over Lovrecica until 1519 when the civil authorities if Umag took it over. In 1291 with the peace treaty of Treviso both Umag and Lovrecica came under Venetian dominion.
Among its historical monuments the most remarkable piece of architecture is its old time fortress which exists no longer and which was used by the bishop for church and civil lawsuits. Lovrecica suffered severe devastation from plague and malaria successfully eradicated only in the 20th century
